A Walking Rugby Record!

On Friday 17th January a Walking Rugby club record at Bromsgrove (Part of Bromsgrove Walking Sports Centre) was set. Attendances have been creeping up over the last few weeks leading up to the record being set with the average attendance between 16 & 20 players each week.

The Record attendance now sits at 24 players. A 4 team round robin was played out with 6 players on each team!

This attendance now tops the charts with Bromsgrove walking Rugby Nearing its 4th birthday at the end of the spring.

The Foundations Inclusion & Education Coach Matt Cowdrey said “Its a great turnout to have 24 players turn up to the first walking rugby session of the year . its certainly been a long time coming to exceed 20 players at this session, lets hope the engagement continues and who knows we might hit 30 very soon.”

Walking Rugby Player Mark Saunders said “

I’ve been going to the Worcester Warriors Foundation Walking Rugby sessions in Bromsgrove for about four years now.

Rugby has always been my sport & although I’ve not played the 15 man game for several decades, it’s just great to have an oval ball back in my hands again.

Attendance has got better & better over the years, mostly by word of mouth & I’m not at all surprised – we have such a good time.

I don’t think I’m alone in saying my fitness & agility has improved, I play even if it’s cold & wet & have such a good laugh with like minded people, some of whom didn’t know much about the game before they started.

I’ve made some great friends & have to say the Friday sessions are one of the highlights of my week.”

The session at Bromsgrove takes place on a Friday lunchtime from 12:30pm – 1:30pm at Bromsgrove Cricket, Hockey & Tennis Club, B60 3BW.
